Bamboo Viscose Finishing
Problem Statement
Bamboo viscose is one of the fastest-growing textile fibres, marketed on sustainability credentials by brands including Ettitude, Boody, Cariuma, and Uniqlo. However, bamboo viscose is produced by the same toxic NaOH/CS2 viscose process as conventional rayon, and finished with the same DMDHEU formaldehyde-releasing resin. The FTC has issued over $3.1M in fines (Kohl's, Walmart) for false bamboo marketing claims. EU REACH Aug 2026 will restrict DMDHEU finishing for European market exports. Bamboo brands face a greenwashing vise: they market 'natural bamboo' while using a carcinogen-releasing finishing chemistry. CAGE's food-grade amino acid system is the only finishing chemistry that closes the entire supply chain narrative — from bamboo plant to finished fabric.
